Tea Culture and Ceramics: A Co-Evolution
The Evolution of Tea Culture in China, Japan, and the West happened alongside the development of Tea Ware.
Naturally one needs to have vessels to drink ones tea out of, and as tea culture grew, so too did advancements in ceramic art. In this presentation, we will explore the types of vessels that came to be in vogue during key times in the history tea culture.
We will learn about glazes and types of clay, as well as shapes and styles of tea bowls and tea pots; we will also explore how the aesthetics of various “tea influencers” throughout history popularized certain styles of ceramics.
You will walk away from this program with an appreciation for the legacy of Tea Ware in the history of Tea Culture, and a sense of heightened inspiration around the role of Ceramics in the Art of Tea.
